Thanks to a grant from the City of Orlando, CFLA seniors were able to visit Stetson University, Flagler College, the University of South Florida and Florida Southern College. All CFLA students take a field trip to a different school each year (with different grades visiting FIEA, UCF, Valencia College, Rollins College, Seminole State College and the University of Florida) in furtherance of the school’s college preparatory emphasis. These trips give students the opportunity to compare small schools versus large campuses and both private and public schools to better understand school options. “Picturing themselves” on campus and meeting with admissions staff at each school helps make the college decisions more manageable.
Every student at CFLA participates in Community Service. Each small group (Discovery, or “Disco,” group) plans its own community service opportunity and students also participate in school-wide events, this month fundraising for breast cancer research. Mrs. Litchford’s 7th grade girls Disco served lunch at the Daily Bread, assisting in the delivery of food to more than 300 homeless and disadvantaged members of our community. The students enjoyed the opportunity to help those less fortunate and learned a lot about the community’s needs.
